WARRIOR CREED, excerpt from Leadership in Action

Dan O'Shea lays out the seven-part framework that defines the warrior mindset — leading from the front, clarity of mission, commitment to a higher purpose, and the internal battle against self-doubt that underpins them all.

1. A Warrior Leads from the Front

Who am I? I am a WARRIOR and my mission is self-mastery.  I always lead my team by example from the front andI never ask a teammate to do that which I am not willing to do myself.  Before embarking on any task, I first get clear on my mission.  I thencreate a plan of actionwith each teammate working together to accomplish the mission.  I am more focused on results than the methods necessary to achieve those goals.  I live by the motto, mission first, and people always.

2. Clear on the Mission

Acknowledging that I am an elite member of a team of leaders, I have a special sense of duty to society.  We are a force for good and we strive for what’s right.  I am proud of my team and our significant contributions to society.  For me, it is not just about the bottom line but living with integrity and knowing that not only am I doing things right, but doing the right thing.

3. Committed to a Higher Purpose

Recognizing that I choose my station in life, I am a proud volunteer.  No matter what my role is on my team, I am first and foremost a team player.  I will always be courteous and treat my teammates and others with dignity and respect.  I am proud of my team and I will never embarrass them or let them down.  I will do whatever it takes to help accomplish the mission without seeking personal glory.

4. Responsible to Others

Readily do I accept all tasks as an opportunity to excel and to raise the standard one notch higher.  I expect more out of myself than others expect of me.  My body will achieve what my mind can conceive.  The only limits to what I can do are self-imposed.  I will give 100% and then some.  No matter what I’ve done or accomplished, I will always have something left within me.  Warriors never quit!

5. Task-Focused

Iwill always strive to win because I train harder and commit more.  I thrive on challenge, accepting every obstacle in my life as an opportunity to raise the standard. Mistakes are an opportunity for learning and self-improvement. The greater the challenge, the greater the reward. For me, the only easy day was yesterday.

6. Committed to Excellence

One for all, all for one is the core belief I have in my team.  I am loyal to my company and to each teammate who is committed to living the company’s values.  We trust each other with our safety, resources and reputation because we know that each teammate will do their utmost to exemplify the vision and values of our team.

7. Demonstrates Loyalty

Realizing that the greatest battle I face is the battle within… against self-doubt, or the fear of failure.  Yet failure occurs only when I don’t learn from my mistakes.  I am constantly learning and moving forward in my progress toward the goal of self-mastery.  In overcoming all the challenges in my life, be it in my work or personal relationships, I will either find a way or make one, because failure in my mission is not an option…

For the Warrior…     FAILURE IS NOT AN OPTION
